The Trick To Purse Organization

Hi everyone!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted! I’ve been super busy with getting moved into my sorority house and then having a completely full sorority recruitment schedule. Now that things are starting to slow back down I plan on posting regularly again! My first post back is going to be about purse organization.

If you’re anything like me your purse can become a bag of disorganization and chaos, and no matter how many times you clean it out it’s always a mess again in a couple days. I have tried many different organization methods, but I have finally found the one that works! By doing these things my purse is always organized and clutter free.

Find a purse with a flat bottom and structure

I love the look of unstructured and slouchy bags, but I realized those kinds of bags become super disorganized because everything piles up at the bottom and you can spend forever digging around for what you need. When there is structure and a flat bottom things stay in place and you can see what you have much better.

Use a wristlet instead of a wallet

If there’s one tip that has helped me the most for making my purse functional it’s this one. I loved having a wallet, but it was always so bulky and took up a lot of space. In my wristlet I only keep my most used debit and credit cards, ID, and some cash. I also bought a size that fits my phone inside perfectly. I recommend buying one that has a strap because you can hang it on your wrist and then you have both hands free. This is the best tip because every important thing you need with you at all times is in one small, compact space. Whenever you are going out at night or running into a store quick you don’t need to dig through your purse to find the things you need or carry around a bulky wallet.

Keep most important items in an easy to reach place

Other items I need but don’t need at all times I keep in my side pocket of my purse. When I’m carrying my whole purse this is where I keep chapstick, gum, my phone, and keys. This keeps your important items from falling to the bottom of your bag where you always have to dig for them.

Keep all other cards and gift cards in a place other than your wallet

I have gathered a pretty large collection of gift cards over the years, and I realized when I have them all in my wallet it takes up so much space and makes it way bulkier than it needs to be. I bought this cute little card organizer from a friend and it’s the best way to keep everything together without having to carry it around with me all the time.

Do a weekly clean out

Inevitably, your purse will gather random things that make it a mess. For whatever reason my purse seems to be where all my receipts gather, and if I don’t clean it out once a week my whole bag gets completely disorganized and messy. If you do a quick clean out once a week it will save you time in the long run since there won’t be as much to organize as there would be if you cleaned it every couple months.

I hope these tips help you keep your purse organized! Let me know in the comments what you do to keep your purse tidy!

  1. Hi Katie! Hope you’re settling into college/sorority life. I like this post – a slouchy bag albeit cute = magnet for chaos. I try for at least 2 main compartments and side pockets so I can organize my stuff. I’ve had a sizeable wristlet for years, and it’s getting to be too much (aka I put too much in it), so I was thinking to get a wallet w/slots. Still debating. I like your idea of gift cards in a separate carrier and agree on the weekly cleanout… Oh the things I can unearth!

    1. Unfortunately I don’t know where it’s from because I got it from my friend and her mom gave it to her 🙁 I know that you can find things similar to it at places like Target. Sometimes you can find wallets that have a ton of card slots in them and that’s what I used to use 🙂
